Berchtesgaden

Jared and I took a day trip from Salzburg to Berchtesgaden on a day that my parents were busy.  We woke up and were excited to see the sun!  We went to Eagles Nest (Hitler's "vacation" home up in the Bavarian Alps), Lake Königsee, and took a tour of the salt mine.  It was gorgeous.

The sun was shining when we got on the bus to head to the top of the mountain where Hitler's Eagles nest lies.  When we got to the top the fog and clouds had started rolling in obstructing a good portion of our view.  By the time we left this was what we saw...

as opposed to what you might see on a bright sunshiny day...

We still had some great views and it was beautiful on the way down the mountain, once we got below the clouds and fog.

Salt mine uni's:

Lake Königsee made it in my top 5 favorite places from the trip.  We took a ferry ride out to the other side of the lake which was gorgeous.  When we got to the other side we thought we had an hour to do a little hike to another lake with a view of one of the tallest waterfalls in Germany.  When we got there we discovered that we really only had less than a half hour!  We decided to go ahead and go and informed the employee at the dock we would be back to take the last ferry back across the lake, in hopes that they would wait for us if we were a little late.  He made it very clear that they wouldn't wait for us.  So we ran!  We ran all the way to the lake, were awe strucken by it's beauty, sat and enjoyed the beauty for oh about 10 minutes, laughed hysterically as Jared fell in the water while we attempted to take a photo of us sitting on a rock just off the shore of the lake.  He put it on timer and tried to run across the slippery rocks to join me for a photo and didn't quite make it.  Don't worry we tried... and tried again and got the photo.  Then we ran all the way back... it was definitely worth it!

The echo from the trumpet was crystal clear!

The lake we ran to:

Gorgeous!  and he's still smiling, even after falling in the lake and bruising his tailbone.
